This idea comes unassembled.
THIS IDEA COMES UNASSEMBLED. IS THIS WHAT YOU MEAN? TRY THIS EXAMPLE. Understanding someone else’s idea means creating it in your own mind. You guess what they mean, then use their explanations to improve the guess. QUESTIONS ARE PART OF THE ASSEMBLY.
Understanding an explanation involves creating knowledge in the listener’s own mind. The speaker’s words, examples and replies help the listener work out the meaning and correct misunderstandings. This can be new knowledge for the listener even when the idea is familiar to others. Understanding a claim does not require agreeing with it.
